Shearing at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow
I long ago learnt that the Trolls of this world dislike shearing photos so keep to a minimum – few realise it is an absolute necessity for Alpaca for welfare and health reasons and not just to harvest the fleece for monetary gain! The Alpaca do not suffer and most realise it is nicer without in the heat – hence they sunbathe when they can rather than sit in the shade when too hot. We always shear in May at Kensmyth for birthing reasons and because historically there is hot weather in June.. here is hoping
Growing Alpaca and grandaughter too at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
As the yearlings became two year olds but still too immature to mate this year, my grand daughter will be 3 this year – how time flies..
Blooming flowers everywhere as Spring springs into life at Kensmyth
Love this time of year as the blossom starts appearing and grey days turn into blue skies with leaves appearing on the trees.. the smell of cut grass and the feeling of hay and haylage being shortly due to be made..
Biggest Wasp ever at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow
Well sorry if you are squeamish but I heard a noise like a Chinook and this came straight at me.. if in doubt look at the size please.. reminder to all alpaca owners that being chased by a hornet when pregnant or in the heat can be disastrous also for cria due shortly.. let alone me!
