Happy Birthday at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
who would have believed another 5 years have gone by since we brought our beautiful puppy home, following the sad loss of our Flat Coat Retriever to a nasal tumour? Well it has, hefty guarding 45kg but kind and gentle Curly Coated Retrievers – way to go but dont be fooled by the cute look here, they are serious livestock gun working guard dogs!
Dry Clay Ground at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow
Well at the top of the hill we have fantastic grass and at the bottom of the hill likewise – but the band in the middle is dry and the Cria just love rolling and rolling in it but it makes our visitors smile.. so big and they come to call now!
Happy Alpaca days at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow in moody skies 2020
nothing like the weather changes at the moment is there? good job visitors dont mind at all..
Hot steamy days at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
with temperatures soaring into the 34 degrees and over, small wonder we saw such beautiful skies at sunrise and sunset ..

sun rises in the East and sets in the West..
‘andsome is as ‘andsome does Draught Horses at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
How beautiful our Draught colt now at just over a year – reminds me so much of my lovely horse Sam – my “Horse in the House” – yes that is me about 30 years ago .. look at the Telly LOL
Kensmyth Alpaca making hay whilst the sun shines at Clay Meadow
We have been busy making hay whilst the sun shone intermittently at Clay Meadow – well silage actually. sometimes the weather just dictates which livestock priority you go with and when its rain, hail, dry, rain, dry, dry, rain the grass simply carries on doing its own thing.
Please note you do NOT feed Silage to Alpaca, it was too good so silage was made and off it went to its new home!
BIG machinery envy here making our own little Massey Ferguson look old bless her but farming friends helped out and our Silage got made.
Somethings going on around here..
and a cutting we will go..
out little massey doing her bit to help LOL
and home for a beer
Happy August hot and humid at Kensmyth Alpaca Clay Meadow
With temperatures soaring to 36 degrees this week – all farmers were out tending their livestock early and we are no exception – some stunning sunrises what better way to welcome AUGUST 2020
Climate change at Kensmyth 2020 from 21 to 31 degrees in minutes
well the cria are growing beautifully here at Kensmyth and so are the Sloes which are incredibly early to be this big – it could be a very long winter again I think with these changes in temperatures so quickly back and forth..
Biosecurity at Kensmyth and Happy Birthday Kinda British Spotted Pony
Biosecurity at Kensmyth for the Alpaca for new followers includes full badger fencing but also 8ft lanes between all paddocks. These obviously need grazing and so 3 years ago now we purchased some British Spotted Ponies in order to do the legwork on this.
It is amazing to think that after that nearly year gestation, birth and development our beautiful filly Kensmyth Kinda Cute or Kinda to her friends is so stunning and so happy with her pal doing the job for which she was intended.
Happy Birthday Kinda – soon it will be time for you to go and be a ridden pony for someone to love but meantime you are only just two!
Courgette explosion at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow 2020
Well I have said previously that my husband is green fingered and always grows too much even if not trying to but also I believe this year the weather and cleaner air has created many more Vegetable growers in Lockdown too.
Here on the farm with the amazing Alpaca fertiliser – is no exception – luckily I saw on the internet you can cook with chillies and oil and freeze courgettes for the winter so in my spare time..
