Birthing imminent at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
Well with Alpaca we always know to look for signs of something different.. like an Alpaca taking itself off to be on its own..
or humming intermittently to its unborn cria inside. clever stuff – so that when in the herd the baby will know whose call is MUMs!
so fascinating when they all sit and do it..
but I guess its more obvious with the big ‘orse LOL
Never underestimate Nanny Alpaca McPhee at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
the power of a Nanny in the Alpaca world is amazing – either old or barren (bless her Daisy is both) they control their troups at bedtime..
control them through the day..
and .. pose for the camera at all times !
bless you Daisy for looking after the cria so well.. birthing time is nearly upon us so watch out your hours will extend rather rapidly soon LOL

Sunset on a Bank Holiday Week end at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
More and more people flocked to the countryside to take exercise and I worry intensely that I saw none using sanitiser after going through gates hundreds had gone through before them.. onwards and upwards life goes on.
meantime some beautiful sunsets now the Bank Holiday is over and working week begun..

Birthing preparations at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
well, with the first Alpaca due in less than a month now it was time to gently move those fatties to new pastures. only moving heavily pregnant alpaca in cool temperatures so as not to stress them meant the hurdles and alpaca were moved last thing in the evening.
do they look like they care? nope, used to tractors and flying hurdles my lot..
just look at those swinging bellies on this lot.. and back to the farm with the hurdles
going grey at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
Alas – the great know it alls look about to be proven correct – Kensmyth Perugia is changing coat again and this time it looks like he will go grey. I say will because whilst I hope for light chestnut, I think my hopes will be dashed.. see what you think and place your bets now for this stunning yearling colts future colour!
(most big Draughts are grey as a hint!)
having gone from bright chestnut to bay to liver chestnut, we live in hope!
Flattening the curves at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow
well as the talk is full of curve flattening on Covid 19, I have to say we were a bit behind the curve with the weather suddenly drying out the land and not getting certain places rolled. not for the want of trying. however, as the pigeons happily mated in the bushes my attention was elsewhere and into a dried out hole my left foot did go.. I had about two seconds to decide which way to fall before I crashed to the floor. major ouch time!
So I decided to see how it went with home treatment for a few days and not to go to A&E as the NHS were already more than overloaded. I was lucky – would you have gone – see what you think of this KNEE injury!?
nope – i didnt stop working on it, farming is in full swing folks!
SOS message from Kensmyth about the Countryside

Out with the sanitiser before you touch your face
